Should we have to pay for "extra" garbage? Should companies have to take back all the packaging they sell? Imagine if you will that your township, borough, or county decides what an average amount of garage should be for you. So, it charges you extra for trash above that average, and things bigger than average trash. Would you expect companies to help by making their packaging smaller? or their packaging more recyclable? I share my thoughts on just these questions. This PodCast was inspired by a story in Parade Magazine.

The show will have a name change come episode 51. I'll be going back to the moniker Whole Lot of Nonsense. It'll be the same short form show we all have come to love. Don't be surprised when it happens.

FreeScreenCast — Rich tried this one. He installed it as directed and is able to bring up the software fine. However, when it comes time to record the software stops functioning and an error message is delivered. The potential for this service is great. There are many good instructional and informational videos featured on their site. Give it a try and let Rich know about your experiences!

Triggit.com — Rich has tried this service. He likes the fact that he can place media such as photos and videos into his blog. He can also place ads into text within his blog. This is useful for affiliate ad links. However, he’s not be very successful at getting the application to find the embed codes at Amazon.com.

Rich is impressed with some new enhancements and features at Utterz.com. Most specifically, the user creation screen now includes the ability to record video and audio “on the fly.” Prior to this enhancement one had to upload prerecorded content.

Many social networks are pulling together to help Susan Reynolds raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Susan has a blog detailing her experiences from a recent diagnosis of breast cancer. She calls it “Boobs on Ice.” Inspired by her accounts, many others have started promoting the “Frozen Pea Fund“. They have also been commenting in almost every social network online, including Twitter, Utterz, Flickr, Seesmic, Facebook, and more.

One group of social media pundits even produced a video to help promote. Find it at YouTube and in many other locations. This was sprearheaded by Jeffrey Sass.

Views

Rich has recently been “disconnecting” from social media from time to time so that he can regroup and re-prioritize. He does use many of the networks discussed in the past on this show, but is primarily limited to Twitter, Utterz, and Viddler.

Rich is fond of a service called Eyejot that allows one to send video email. This is, as been described by Rich and Eric Rice, an “unsocial media” site. You can record up to five minutes of video with a paid account (up to 60 seconds on the free service), save your address books and friend connections, follow your account through RSS/iTunes, and create a site widget for posting your message of preference to your site visitors.

Just thought it would be nice to wish all of you and your families a happy holiday season. Hopefully not too stressed out from the "buybuys". I have a really cool post from a talented micromedia guy that I feel rings true. I know each of us are passionate about trying to express ourselves and have some fun while doing it.

"Show or Tell" where is the themed content?

The question at hand is, why are so many (the majority by my estimation) videoblogs not about any single thing or set of things? Or as wikipedia characterizes them, "personal?" They don't seem to have a theme or focus. They can't quite be described as being "about" something. (This includes my own vlog). In other words, they're not shows.

I concede that the folks who don't want them to be shows (for lack of a more imaginative term I'll call these good people "vlogging purists" in this post) make a compelling argument. It goes something like the following...

Videoblogging at its core is about The New Way. A new way of making media. A new way of distributing media. New paradigms, new approaches, new rules -- scratch that: no rules! We needn't limit our new selves with old expectations, which were created by our old nemesis, TV.

The categorization of "shows" by genre, subject, and content is mostly the result of generations of marketing and advertising trend-setting. Slicing communities into demographics, pigeonholing individuals as consumers, and creating expectations based on the dominating agenda: to sell us all something.

I'm a geek... yeah, who would've figured that what with my being involved in NaPodPoMo?... but a laptop for every child? I heard an interview on CBC's Search Engine with one of the key designers on the project, and had some thoughts and questions.

Is this inherently a good idea? For kids who can't afford food, healthcare, housing, are unemployed or at risk of being killed, raped or put to work as a child soldier... is a laptop the solution to their problems?

I think education is a great idea. I think child-led education is great. What do y'all think about the laptop for every child program?

If you really want to help with this program, be aware that you can participate in the "Get 1, Give 1" program through their site XO Giving. The purchase program opens November 12, and you can own one of these laptops for 400 USD. The idea is you buy a 200 USD laptop for yourself and one for a child who needs one.

First whenever, but mostly every two weeks... then weekly... now DAILY?

Yup

You see, authors engage in an annual ritual called National Novel Writing Month, and commit to writing every day for a month. Many use this as a way to kick start ideas or find out if they're really cut out for the whole authoring gig.

Jennifer of the Morning Brewcast (a PodCast about coffee that is on my list) decided that she wanted to start a similar concept for PodCasters called National PodCast Post Month (NaPodPoMo)... and yes, there's already one for VidCasters and Bloggers, so we're potentially late to the game.

Rather than subject you to hearing this experiment in my feed for Little Bit/Whole Lot of Nonsense, I'm creating a new feed just for this experiment. Bird geek forgot camera for Taiwan trip

My buddy Paul the birder was quite chagrined when he set out for 1st leg of Asia trip(Taiwan) and realized he forgot his "beast"-primary bird photo camera. He spent much coin to arrange that "Beasty" be forwarded on to Japan for retrieval on 2nd leg of journey. While he was planning black opp for Godzilla charting in Tokyo bay he got the good news that for some more coin (Japan customs) they'd gladly release it to him.So you can see a happy birder once again.
